Electro-Conversion of Carbon Dioxide to Valuable Chemicals in a Membrane Electrode Assembly

Electro-conversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) into valuable chemicals is an efficient method to deal with excessive CO2 in the atmosphere. However, undesirable reaction kinetics bulk solution strongly limit current density, and thus it incompetent market promotion. Flow cell technology provides insight uplifting density. As flow configuration, membrane electrode assembly (MEA) has been proposed proven as a viable for scalable electro-conversion, promoting density several hundred mA/cm2. In this review, we systematically reviewed recent perspectives methods put forward utilization state-of-the-art MEA convert chemicals. Configuration design, catalysts nature, media were discussed. At end also presented challenges potential directions potent design. We hope review could offer some clear, timely, insights on development using wastewater-produced CO2.
